Veteran's Day November 11, 2008...
We do not know what the future will hold for each one of us! However... you can "Thank A Veteran" for the sacrifices they've made, so our future is a safer place in which our hopes may become a reality!
The surviving veterans from World War I are almost gone & the surviving veterans from World War II are rapidly passing too! As the number of Korean War veterans declines, of which many were in WWII also, our more recent war veterans are brought to the forefront!
Viet Nam, Grenada, Bosnia, Desert Storm & Iraq & the many conflicts that I didn't mention, have begat a whole new legion of war vets!
Though I have the highest respect & thanks for the veterans of WWI, WWII & the Korean War, the men & women of these later wars are closer to me in age & I actually lived thru the "time" they defended our country & the rights we cherish!
From Viet Nam until the present day, the veterans of these wars & conflicts have not received the "respect & thanks" they deserve!
I hope & pray for the day, when these young men & women that gave their precious lives or suffered horrendous mental & physical injuries, are given the help they so desperately need! Whether it's medical, psychological, monetary or just a handshake & a thank you, they need our help & appreciation!
Whenever I come across a veteran wearing a hat, shirt, bracelet or jacket, that helps tell "their military story", I always tell them "thank you" & shake their hand!
I've had men & women breakdown into tears & tell me that I'm the only person to ever thank them for their service!
If they want to "talk about it", I give them a listening ear, along with a compassionate heart, in which to share their stories!
I strongly urge those of you that haven't, to "thank a veteran" & offer them an outlet in which to "get it off their chest"! You will be glad you did!
Just as those that are gone will not be forgotten, I hope & pray that those who survived & are still here will be remembered also!
A special Veterans Day THANK YOU to ALL of the veterans that helped in past wars & conflicts & those that are currently defending & protecting ALL of us, from the evils lurking in every nook & cranny that want to take our safety & freedoms away!
