My grandfather & great uncle Fred (who fell) both served in WW1. On Armistice Day this year we had just three living Tommies left from that barbaric war.... out of interest how many Doughboys are still alive today? Im guessing there must be a few... As a young kid growing up in the 50's & 60's I used to see many old fellas with only one leg,,,,,,,,,, I used to think back then that old guys lost their legs as they got old,,,,,,,,,, there were at least 3 that lived in my street, one of which saw my great uncle Fred fall whilst going OTT.........I just wished I had realized back then what those guys had gone through>>> 60,000 killed or wounded on the first day of the Somme campaign........... HUGE RESPECT for all our servicemen.
