As some of you know I play trombone in the Covina Concert band. Every Veteran's day we play at a ceremony at the city hall . The last two years we honored one of Covina's sons who was killed in Iraq. They take down the banner with the soldiers name that had been flying on one of the light poles in the city. They blazen it with a gold star and place it in the memorial arch in the courtyard and dedicate it that day with the family in attendance. Not a dry eye in the place. We play a medley of armed forces songs and honor those in attendance by having them stand when they hear the song of thier branch of the military. It's not much but it means a lot to me. My grandfather served in WW1,WW2 and Korea aboard the USS Iowa & USS Missouri, My dad served in WWI Merchant Marines and my Brother in Viet Nam. Thank god for all of the Veterans then and now and those that are serving currently.
